Referral to The Competition Authority.
Following a complaint lodged by the producers of Knockeen Hills, that the Shannon and Dublin Airport Authority has abused its dominant market position, the Competition Authority has accepted this complaint as a referral. An investigation is ongoing.

 

Background.
The Shannon Airport Authority in 2005 after stocking Knockeen Hills for over four years, de listed it without notice, leaving only one brand of poteen available, without any competition, for sale at its duty-free shops. The Shannon and Dublin Airport Authority is recognised by the Competition Authority as having a dominant monopoly in duty-free sales at airports in Ireland.
